Semiconductor Sales Dropped 29% In January

Worldwide semiconductor sales fell 29% in January to $15.3 billion, compared to the year-earlier period, the Semiconductor Industry Association said Monday. The decline "reflected a continuing erosion of consumer confidence and the effects of the global economic recession," said SIA President George Scalise. He added that sales declined across the entire range of semiconductor products including personal computers, mobile phones and autos. He concluded, however, that inventory levels are now very low and said there are some signs that visibility is improving.
